Black Meat Mysore: "Monkoh" Sandalwood

Mysore Sandalwood "Monkoh" edition. This was a rather tricky incense to craft. Shaving the wood takes a while, it is very hard wood, and makes for a joyous callus creating process. Beyond that, we'd like to describe what "monkoh" means. "聞香" can be translated as "listening fragrance". For us, it is also wholeheartedly an invitation to listen closely to the incense as it articulates "its song" in scent. There are some other historic meanings we will elaborate on some other time. In terms of technique, it is a definitive term used to describe one of the styles learned from KyaraZen. "Monkoh" recipes utilize methods to elicit spaciousness, from which within the character of the wood is revealed. I am always learning from this process of interpreting nature, always remembering humility in the face of such simple yet profound experience. It's likely true that we could all benefit from the time it takes one stick to burn down to ash - listening to silent vapors.
