Frost Descends .. Winter Begins .. Minor Snow

霜降 Shuang Jiang · Oct 22 – Nov 6

立冬 Li Dong · Nov 6 – Nov 21

小雪 Xiao Xue · Nov 21 – Dec 6

November begins with the last warmth of autumn. The fifth qi still brings ministerial fire into the season's dryness, but winter is approaching. On November 21, the sixth qi takes its place: Taiyang Cold Water hosts, Yangming Dry Metal visits. Beneath these seasonal changes, the year's underlying Water movement continues.

The Su Wen calls winter 閉藏, closing and storing. The will is kept as though hidden, as though holding something privately. Not an extinguishing of life, but a gathering of it. The seed beneath the earth has not abandoned its life. It is keeping it.
