Kyphi: Ancient Egyptian, Modern Senkoh

$40

2 grams per tube - slow burning 30+ mins per stick

Kyphi Incense – Winter 2025 Edition (second batch, slightly darker, more agarwood.)

A modern handmade Kyphi incense crafted from the original Edfu temple recipe and refined through senkoh technique. This incense is built from a fermentation of sweet flag, juniper berries, cyperus, pine resin, raisins & others. The ferment is folded into a deep aromatic base of agarwood, sandalwood, Himalayan cedar, frankincense, myrrh, mastic, styrax, cardamom, and trace of cinnamon. Aged labdanum adds depth, while camel grass and camphor lift the smoke into clarity.

Extruded stick by stick after kneading & curing. The result is an incense that moves through phases: descent to calm the spirit, ascent to open perception, harmonization in the center, purification of the heart, and entry into the dream-gate. Inspired by the night rituals of the Temple of Edfu, where Kyphi was offered to restore balance and invite vision, this blend deepens contemplation and prepares the mind for practice.

A deep, powerful and unusually complex incense with a lot of variability.. bitter earthy, then sweet and powdery, strange percolations of all kinds of scents and feel - if you like soft and lighter scents this may not be for you.

This is THE first representation of Kyphi in stick form I am aware of...anywhere. It is a unique presentation in it's extruded senkoh form, offering up a brightening, earthy aroma.

The labdanum, berries, and grass are milling around on the dance floor with frankincense and woods. There is a tang there that hints of the fermentation, a bit of uplifting grassiness in that earthy embrace. Sweet but not cloying, each sniff offers a different contemplative profile.

That's one of the amazing things about this stick, it's not a single scent, it changes over time. I don't think there's a word for it with regards to the olfactory senses, but I would say it "shimmers". Highly recommend this for fans of kyphi in particular, and other people who enjoy uniquely crafted scent
